Referees 

The AFBJJ maintains a referee certification program. The rules instigated by the IBJJF are updated bi-annually.

It is compulsory for all Black Belts to maintain an annual rules update course by AFBJJ (for AFBJJ membership) and or IBJJF (for IBJJF membership).

Courses for both certification and updates are held around the country, usually prior to an event.
